What does creativity got to do with it?

Has life ever been extremely hectic for so long that you wonder when you’ll finally get a break? It’s been a rough patch for me over the last few months, transitions, changes, huge moves and life altering decisions. To say the least, the balance of my life has shifted a bit, causing me to change my focus on the more pressing tasks like finding employment, relocating back to the United States, enrolling my son in a new school, staying financially afloat and…well you know the rest.

I’m happy to say that in the short time I’ve been living in Las Vegas, I found a first grade position. Although I’m eh…semi-relieved that I have a new position, the shift…oh the “shift” has been absolutely hectic and has taken a considerable amount of time away from my creative space.

 Overwhelmed. Now what?

If you’re like me, you may find yourself at any given moment swamped in lesson plans, overwhelmed with transitions and different curriculum guidelines, new students and co-workers, etc. I can go on and on, gloating about how crazy I feel, however, I finally convinced myself that it really isn’t that bad if I incorporate more creativity back into my life.

We all need an outlet to express our true and authentic self.

If our creativity is not being cultivated, inspired or practiced on a regular basis, it can wreak havoc on our self-esteem, confidence and energy levels. This creative life needs to be nurtured, fed and practiced daily and if you aren’t in the habit of doing so but have a passion in your heart to create, make it your business to design your time around this very essential element.

Time management is crucial.

Maintaining a proper life balance and cultivating our creativity reminds us of who we are and the greatness we possess. It reminds us of our fabulous power. It reminds us of how far we’ve come and that the sky is the limit in terms of what we can do to make epic moves in our lives. Making the space in our lives will awaken our genius and ambition in order to create amazing content, projects and meaningful messages which will ultimately change others as well as ourselves.

What about the day job?

I get it…you need to make those coins in order to survive. Why not treat your creative passions in the same light because it is needed just as much in our lives in order to thrive and survive from a holistic standpoint. If this aspect of your life is lost in transition, it won’t be pretty. I find myself feeling disconnected when I don’t make time for some of my creative projects like writing, blogging, reading great non-fiction or creating and editing video content for my You Tube channel.

What can you do?

  1. Carve out a specific time of the day for personal projects by eliminating social media, phone calls and other distractions. Even if you spend 30 minutes a day toward one of your creative goals, you’ve accomplished much more than if you didn’t make the time at all. You need this time!
  2. Outline specific tasks for the day. Make them reasonable so that you don’t feel even more discouraged when you’ve only checked off 1 item on the list because it would be near to impossible to get through the rest of the tasks in the time you’ve allotted. Creative minds need time to cultivate, be inspired, apply and really develop all the meaningful creative content that we all so desire in our big hearts.
  3. Practice patience! All of this takes patience and understanding. You already know that greatness is in YOU so don’t worry about rushing through it all to prove a point to the watching world. They see you!
  4. Put you before other people. If you find yourself helping other people succeed in their creative endeavors by always supporting them, you can’t possibly make the time to do what you need to propel your project to the next level. Make sure you take care of what you have to do or at least feel comfortable to do so before committing to another project or service.

Understand that in life, we will shift, move, transition and reflect. In the interim, we need to maintain a sense of peace and love for ourselves which will require every ounce of patience. Our lives are intricately designed and our purpose is aligned with who God has called us to be. HE has positioned you for that very thing you desire. It will be accomplished with diligence and dedication in due time. How do you make more time to be creative? I’d love to hear from you!

Make time for you, Make time to be CREATIVE!
